 FREE THE STEM CELLS

   T-SHIRT DESCRIPTIONS

"Unlock the Cells"   Stem cell research represents an entirely new approach to healing disease. The discovery of stem cells and their use in medical therapies is considered by many scientists to be the most promising field in biomedical research today. Despite this promise, limited funding and severe restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, one of the most promising aspects of this science, has been imposed by our current administration. Millions of Americans are outraged.  Join the fight to unlock the full potential of stem cell research.  Free the Stem Cells.

"My boobs are killer"  Fight Breast Cancer:  Every year, 40,000 women in the U.S. die from breast cancer. An estimated 178,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are diagnosed a year. It’s the leading cause of cancer death for women between the ages of 20 and 59. Do you fall in that age bracket? Women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.  It’s time to change these stats. Not your breast size.

"Forget Alzheimers" Fight Alzheimer’s disease:  Memory is important in every aspect of our fast-paced society,  from our offices to hard drives, ipods and cell phones. Can you imagine life without it?  1 in 10 Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, a neurological disorder that impairs memory, thinking and behavior. Anxiety, delusions and hallucinations are just some of the side effects. The impact of Alzheimer’s on the U.S. makes the disease one of our nation’s greatest medical, social and economic challenges, with annual costs of care at $100 billion.

"Be negative"  Fight AIDS:  There always seems to be an emphasis on staying “positive” in our daily lives; however, for individuals being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, “positive” is hardly a word they want to hear.  In 1981, the first case of AIDS was identified in the U.S. The epidemic has now spread to every part of the country and to all sectors of society. It is thought that more than one million people are living with HIV/AIDS. Have you been affected by it somewhere, somehow? Since the beginning of the epidemic, an estimated 550,394 people with AIDS have died. Unexplained severe weight loss, bacterial infections and anemia are several factors accompanied by the disease.

"Fight Disease"  Stem cell research has the potential to find treatments and cures for over 70 medical conditions, including diabetes, cancer,  multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, autism, heart disease,  Lou Gehrig’s disease, HIV/AIDS and spinal cord injuries.  Approximately 128 million Americans, 1 out of 3 people, have the potential to benefit.  Join the fight against disease.

"Control Freak"  Fight Multiple Sclerosis: Oftentimes we feel safe when we’re in control of board meetings, home life, relationships and decision-making. But what happens when we must face losing control of our own body?  For nearly 40,000 Americans who have Multiple Sclerosis, control is no longer a reality. MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, causing abnormal fatigue, severe vision problems, difficulty walking and tremors. While some symptoms come and go, others may be more lasting, taking control over one’s body until they can no longer function. So go ahead, take control. Just realize that not everyone has that luxury.

"Therapy didn’t work" Fight Paralysis:  Nowadays, rehab is an option many seek to solve personal issues. For those paralyzed by a spinal cord injury, rehab has a different meaning.  Rigorous workouts, day in and day out, are the norm in hopes of improvement. Unfortunately, only so much can be done.  About 250,000 Americans have a spinal cord injury. Every year, approximately 11,000 new cases are reported.  An injury typically begins with trauma to a vertebra, causing damage and pressure to the spine. Nerves that carry signals can no longer relay messages below the level of the injury, resulting in loss of movement and sensation.

"Unpredictable" Fight Autism:  There’s something appealing about spontaneity. When you’re a parent whose child has Autism, though, predictability is preferred.  Coined the fastest-growing developmental disability, Autism affects 1 in 150 births. Nearly 1.5 million Americans have the disease, causing them to process and respond to information in unique ways. Characteristics include resistance to change, use of gestures or pointing instead of words and for no apparent reasons, show distress. Their communication is often described as talking at others instead of to them.

"I rock"  Fight Parkinson’s disease:  You’re hip, smooth, cool, trendsetting and the best at what you do. Not cool are the swaying effects of Parkinson’s.  Nearly 1.5 million Americans have Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological disease that manifests as a tremor, muscular stiffness and difficulty with balance and walking. Primary symptoms include trembling in the hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face. Rigidity or stiffness of the limbs and trunk, impaired balance and coordination increase with stress or anxiety.  The disease is both chronic and progressive.

"Available (for a limited time only)" Fight Epilepsy:  Putting yourself out there at your leisure can be fun.  For Epileptics, there’s another meaning to it. One minute you’re here, next minute you’re really not. With virtually no warning and no recollection, a seizure can creep up on you anytime.  Approximately 200,000 new cases of seizures and epilepsy occur each year, affecting over 3 million Americans of all ages. The disease limits a person’s functional ability. Could you imagine falling and scraping your head at any given time on any given surface? A few mere restrictions include riding a bike, taking baths and driving.
